We purchase medium-length news pieces and profiles (500-1500 words), as well as feature-length work (1,000 words and above, max 5,000). From freelancers, our strong preference is for feature-length work with strong insight and peerless perspective, either in policy issues, technical innovation, geosciences breakthrough, fiscal terms, Petroleum rights. Writer-reporters based outside Africa must make clear in their pitches whether or not they have supporting professional photography available, whether their own or through a colleague.
We prefer short (3-5 paragraph) story proposals, but will consider finished pieces. We like new work, but will take a good look at a searching insight to perennial issues. Pitches should give a strong sense of technical communication, angle and sources – and indicate that you understand the interests of our audience. Please have a look at our website (www.africaoilgasreport.com,) to get a sense of the magazines’ style. Feel free to request a print copy – the print edition is larger and more lively than the site.
