Mozambique’s Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME) has announced an initiative to support decentralized utility solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects to be implemented by Independent Power Producers (IPP) across several provinces.
The Autoridade Reguladora de Energia (ARENE), which will oversee the tender process, will select two experienced IPPs through an International Competitive Bidding (ICB) process with prequalification.
The initiative is under the auspices of GET FiT Mozambique Programme, funded by the Government of Germany through KfW Development Bank.
ARENE is expected to ensure that the selection process aligns with KfW’s procurement guidelines, ensuring transparency and adherence to international standards.
The projects will focus on enhancing energy access and reliability in provinces including Nampula, Zambézia, Sofala, and Gaza. Interested firms are encouraged to download the Prequalification Documents, available in English and Portuguese, from ARENE’s data room.

Applications must be submitted in sealed envelopes to ARENE’s Acquisition Department by 12:00 p.m. Mozambique time on September 13, 2024.
