SONATRACH has announced the loading of its first shipment of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG butane) destined for the port of Douala in Cameroon, which will be transported overland to Chad.
This shipment follows discussions between SONATRACH, the Algeria state hydrocarbon company and the Chadian owned Gazcom, a local distributor of petroleum products.
Those government to government discussions, capped by a protocol agreement on December 17th, 2025 in Algiers, led to the signing of a framework agreement between SONATRACH and GAZCOM on April 21st, 2026.
“The dispatch of the LPG represents a major step forward for SONATRACH in establishing a direct link with a local distributor in the Sahel region, whilst paving the way for fruitful and sustainable commercial relations with other local distributors in Africa”, SONATRACH says in a release.
